Liberation Jeepney (2025)
In 2025, Kwentong Bayan Collective (KBC) facilitated the community-engaged art project, “Liberation Jeepney - Queer Liberation for All”. Our project further developed our prototype Liberation Jeepney (2024).
KBC hosted a series of workshops that engaged intergenerational 2SLGBTQIA+ Filipino-Canadian participants, and allies, in community art activities that explored themes of collective liberation. Project participants were introduced to traditional jeepney art and explored their own collective design ideas.
KBC partnered with illustrator, Keet Geniza who integrated our collective designs to include portraits of Queer and Trans activists of Filipinx descent, environmental symbols in support of climate justice, and designs that honour Indigenous rights and global liberation movements.
Our community co-designed, co-built, and proudly marched with the Liberation Jeepney at the 17th annual Trans March, on June 27, 2025 as part of Toronto Pride.
We acknowledge the support of the Toronto Arts Council's Creative Communities Program, Makulay atbp, all the workshop participants and our community members for making this project possible.
