Althea Balmes and Kat Estacio have launched the comic-collage instructional zine, “Chimpoy Champoy”. Kwentong Bayan is inspired to use Larong Pinoy / Filipino Street Games at our events with Caregivers as a form of community-building! “Games taught us to recognize fun in each other. They showed us that power constantly shifts; the losers (kulelat), winners (panalo) and its (taya) are never the same. There is even space for divergence, for folks to join in the fun but not have to adhere to expected game roles (saling pusa)! Games allowed us to practice empathy knowing full well what it feels like to be a winner, a loser or the it. They also taught us how we can resolve issues without hurting each other, and to ultimately work together towards a common goal. Games taught us about healthy competition, just don’t be pikon! Sore losers are the worst." |
