Carlos Bulosan Theatre (CBT) in partnership with KAPISANAN and with special guests Kwentong Bayan proudly present Tales from the Flipside : Over Time, Overseas as part of the 8th Annual KULTURA Filipino Arts Festival.
Carlos Bulosan Theatre presents a retrospective sampling of their past works featuring the stories of Filipina caregivers working overseas in search of better lives for themselves and their families.
Tales from the Flipside: Over Time, Overseas - will feature scenes from one of CBT’s earliest productions – If My Mother Could See Me Now / Inay Kung Alam Mo Lang (1989), written by one of CBT’s founders and past Artistic Directors, Fely Villasin.
This will be followed by a staged reading of Sana, a short play developed within CBT’s Novice Play Creation Unit and written by Bea Palanca, one of our community’s bright new voices.
To conclude the program, CBT is honoured to be joined by the creators of Kwentong Bayan: Labour of Love, a community comic book in collaboration with Filipina migrant workers in the Live-in Caregiver Program. Artists, Althea Balmes and Jo SiMalaya Alcampo will be speaking about their project and the current state of Philippine migrant workers in our community today. How much has changed? How much has stayed the same?
Tales from the Flipside: Over Time, Overseas is part of Carlos Bulosan Theatre’s ongoing efforts to reconnect with our roots as they celebrate 30 years of producing theatre that reflects the social and political issues affecting the Filipino-Canadian community. They are striving to rediscover and redefine their company for the present and future and invite you to join us as we share and commemorate the stories of our people. "This is your theatre company."
